In grateful remembrance of the Freiburg medical student Maria Ladenburger, who died on 16 October 2016, her parents and sisters together with the Association of Friends of the University of Freiburg eV have founded a foundation to support students of the University of Freiburg, especially the Medical Faculty , The Maria Ladenburger Foundation supports students with disabilities, sudden illnesses or difficult life situations as well as foreign students in their integration into the university environment . It also supports development aid projects, such as compulsory internships in medical studies.
Maria’s parents, Friederike Ladenburger and Dr. med. Clemens Ladenburger, explain the reasons for the establishment of the foundation: “Maria studied medicine full of enthusiasm, commitment and zest for life in order to be there as a doctor for her fellow human beings. She was and she stays a sunshine for her family, for her friends and friends. The foundation wants to pass on the gift of a lifetime to students and in their sense set a sign of humanity. ”
Prof. Dr. Hans-Jochen Schiewer, Rector of the University of Freiburg, emphasizes how important the University is to this foundation: “Maria Ladenburger was involved in her studies for other students and for educational projects in other countries. It stands for everything that distinguishes our university: cosmopolitanism, tolerance and curiosity about everything new. We are very proud that Maria – like her parents and grandparents – studied at the University of Freiburg and got involved here. This foundation is a moving and great gesture from her family, for which I would like to express my heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire university. ”
This is joined by Prof. Dr. med. Kerstin Krieglstein, Dean of the Medical Faculty, commented: “Maria Ladenburger had made the right choice with her doctoral degree in human medicine: she wanted to look after and help people – just as she supported her fellow students during her studies. This generous foundation of the family touches us all very much. ”
The foundation’s assets amount to 100,000 euros. The work of the Maria Ladenburger Foundation can be supported by tax-deductible donations or donations.
