A Syrian national is sentenced to a short prison sentence for raping a woman on a football pitch as well as his part in a brutal knife attack in central Gothenburg.

He will not face expulsion after explaining to the court how difficult it is was for him after “moving” all the way from the Arab world to Sweden.
“Lebanon, Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Croatia and the other countries that are usually smuggled through. I have come all the way from having a good life to now in Sweden,” complained the rapist when he was asked what countries he had traveled during the so-called escape.
On April 17, 2017, a Swedish man was visiting with his friends at a McDonalds restauraunt in Nordstan, Gothenburg. Once they were finished eating, an immigrant gang was waiting outside and there was a verbal disagreement between the man’s friend and one of the men from the immigrant gang.
The man stayed with his friends for a short while, but the gang soon followed them and instigated an attack. In the same argument, one of the attackers, then 19-year-old refugee man Karim from Syria, brought out a knife.
When the man and his friends ran away from the scene, the Syrian, who later brutally attacked and raped a Swedish woman on a football field, chased after them.
As he ran off alone, the man found that two to three people were following him. In seeking protection, he headed towards the Casino Cosmopol and ran past two order guards through the entrance door. Karim quickly followed after and attempted, in front of the guards, to cut the man’s face several times with the knife.
Surveillance showed how the Casino guards then grabbed the refugee man and removed him from the crime scene. The knife was found tossed aside and was later seized as evidence.
On January 21, 2018, Karim, at the age of 20, was at Burger King on Avenyn in central Gothenburg where he met a very heavily drunk woman. A friend of the woman thought the situation felt uncomfortable and chose to keep an eye on the woman so that she would not be vulnerable to the man taking advantage of her.
The victim’s friends tried in vain to prevent the Arab from leaving the fast food restaurant with the woman.
After they disappeared from the restaurant, the friend called the police because she was worried that something would happen. When Karim and the woman walked to Heden, he brutally raped her at a soccer field. The day after the severe attack, Karim was arrested.
During police hearings, Karim has denied responsibility for both crimes. When the police asked if he had anything to say, the Arab man began to tell the police how “bad it was for him” because he illegally traveled all the way from the Arab world to Sweden to get a “better life”.
“I left my country, I left Syria to come here. I have been here for about two years and then I end up in this mess with the police. I wanted to go to school, I wanted a good life. I would have began attending school yesterday, I wanted a good life. I came here when I was 17, now I’m 19. I have not seen much of a life,” he reportedly complained to the police.
The police also asked Karim which countries he crossed to come to Sweden.
“Lebanon and Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Croatia and through the countries that immigrants are usually smuggled through by smugglers. I have come all the way to having a good life in Sweden.”
General documents show that Karim is a citizen of Syria and is in need of an interpreter in Arabic due to poor language skills.
At the end of April, the Gothenburg District Court announced the verdict and convicted Karim of attempted gross maltreatment and rape. The sentence was one year and nine months in prison due to the young age that he claims to be.
However the minimum rate of rape is actually two years. Since the so-called two-thirds release policy is applied in Sweden, the immigrant’s actual sentence is only 14 months in prison.
Karim will also pay 107,500 kronor in damages to the woman he has raped.
