The Authority for Youth and Civil Affairs, MUCF, provides guidance on how adults should talk with newly arrived immigrants on issues related to health, sexuality and gender equality. Among other things, it is important to teach immigrants what they can do and should not do.

Youmo in Practice“, as the guide mentions, is aimed primarily at adults who meet so-called young new Muslim immigrants arrivals.

Sweden government has given the Ministry for Youth and Civil Affairs the task of drawing up the script.

Guidance should facilitate adults to dare to talk about health, gender equality, sexuality, “rights”, norms and relationships with young new arrivals “in an inclusive way”. According to the authorities, it can be difficult for Muslim immigrants to build relationships in Sweden.

“Many young new arrivals therefore need tips on social codes for contact creation and the context in which they can find new friends. In addition, young new arrivals may also need support in navigating how Sweden is interconnected across gender borders,” the Swedish Youth and Civil Affairs Agency writes in its new guidance and continues:

“In many parts of the world, boys and girls do not go to school together, are friends or do something as intimate as hugging when they greet each other … New norms for social interaction are of course confusing and may need to be recalled for a lighter to be able to find oneself and to create new relationships. An obvious thing as eye contact may need time to be sorted out. What does eye contact mean in different parts of the world? Who has an eye contact? What does it mean to hold or to beat down your eyes? “, it says in the scripture.

Lena Nyberg, Director General of MUCF, told  Metro that it is about cultural crashes when people from other countries and other countries come to Sweden.

And after all the sex attacks on Swedish festivals, it has become important to inform immigrants about what is acceptable.

“One of many parts is to argue with young girls and boys about what one gets and can not do,” says Lena Nyberg to Metro.

The script also states that “masculinity contributes, among other things, to more and more boys and men who practice violence and commit sexual abuse.”

In spring 2016, the Youth and Civil Society Authority was commissioned to develop and disseminate a website with information on health and gender equality focusing on “sexual and reproductive health and rights”, SRHR, aimed at young new arrivals. The website was launched in spring 2017 and has been named youmo.se. In addition to Swedish and English, it is found in the languages that are the most overrepresented in serious sexual offenses: Somali, Arabic, Light Dari and Tigrinian.
